Real Madrid director Jorge Valdano confirmed that they have opened negotiations over a new contract with star Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, who has been linked with a summer move to Manchester City in recent weeks.
Higuain, 22, has hit 19 goals in La Liga already this term, behind only Lionel Messi in the scoring charts and Valdano has insisted that is a priority for Real that they keep their key hitman tied down to a lengthy contract at the club.
Valdano said: “He is a player with a perfect record. We are talking with him but there is no rush. We want to renew his deal and for him to finish his career at Real Madrid.”
